PHILADELPHIA — The Houston Dash selected Morgan Brian first overall in the 2015 NWSL Draft on Friday.

The University of Virginia midfielder is a two-time MAC Hermann Trophy winner as college soccer’s best player. She helped lead Virginia to its first national title game last month, where the Cavaliers lost to Florida State.

Brian was a three-time first-team NSCAA All-American at Virginia. She has three goals in 19 caps for the United States, helping the team qualify for the World Cup last October.

Sky Blue FC drafted midfielder Sarah Killion No. 2 overall out of UCLA. Killion’s college teammates, defender Abby Dahlkemper and midfielder Sam Mewis, were drafted No. 3 and No. 4 overall, respectively, to the Western New York Flash.

The Chicago Red Stars executed the first trade of the draft, selecting Boston College forward Stephanie McCaffrey at No. 5 overall but soon trading her to the Boston Breakers for the No. 9 and No. 11 overall picks. Chicago used those picks on Danielle Colaprico and Sofia Huerta, respectively.
