Dagný Brynjarsdóttir has signed with a Frauen-Bundesliga team, according to an Icelandic report. The report did not specify with which German team she signed.
Brynjarsdóttir led Florida State University to its first NCAA national championship last month, tallying 16 goals and six assists in 23 games. She is a finalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy, which on Friday will be given to college soccer’s best male and female players.
News of Brynjarsdóttir playing in Europe should come as little surprise. Brynjarsdóttir told The Equalizer’s Steve Bruno last month that her dream was to once again play in the UEFA Champions League. She previously played for Valur in the Champions League.
“I played in the Champions League and I really liked that,” she said. “My dream is to one day play in the Champions League again and play in the final… I don’t really know who’s going to contact me after I’m done, so I guess I’ll just have to wait and see.”
Brynjarsdóttir, 23, has extensive experience with Iceland’s youth national teams and the senior team. She scored the lone goal in a 1-0 win over the Netherlands at EURO 2013, a victory that propelled Iceland into the quarterfinals.
