Five-time FIFA World Player of the Year Marta re-signed with Damallsvenskan club FC Rosengård on a three-year contract, keeping her in Sweden until 2018.
Marta joined the club in the summer following the collapse of Tyresö FF, which Marta helped guide to the UEFA Champions League final. Rosengård won the Damallsvenskan title this fall for the second straight year, clinching another spot in the UEFA Champions League for 2015-16. Rosengård is currently in the quarterfinals of the current Champions League campaign and will play two-time defending champion Wolfsburg in March.
Rosengård president Håkan Wifvesson said that Marta is one of the three best-paid players on the team, and her salary is “within the financial framework” of the club, according to SVT Sport in Sweden.
Marta’s teammates on Rosengård include Anja Mittag, Ramona Bachmann, Therese Sjögran and Ali Riley.
The majority of Marta’s career has been spent in Sweden, having debuted for Umeå IK in 2004. She played there until 2008 before making the move to the U.S. for three seasons in WPS. When the league folded in early 2012, Marta made the move back to Sweden to join Tyresö FF.
Marta scored a hat trick on Sunday to lift Brazil past the United States, 3-2 in the International Tournament of Brasilia. Brazil enters the 2015 World Cup still seeking it first world title.
