Portland Thorns FC goalkeeper Nadine Angerer and defender Stephanie Catley have been loaned to Australian teams, but both are expected back for the 2015 NWSL season, the Thorns announced on Thursday.
Angerer will play for Brisbane Roar this fall for the second straight year. She helped Brisbane get to the Grand Final last season, the 2013 FIFA World Player of the Year’s first in Australia.
Catley will play for Melbourne Victory. Last year the 20-year-old Australian left back helped captain Melbourne to a Westfield W-League title. Catley has played for Melbourne for five seasons, making her debut at age 15.
Catley joined the Thorns mid-season, tallying five assists. Angerer, 35, had four shutouts in 22 matches for Portland, who lost to eventual 2014 NWSL champion FC Kansas City in the semifinals.
