FC Kansas City midfielder Lauren Holiday was hospitalized in New Jersey with symptoms of dehydration following her team’s 5-0 win over Sky Blue FC.
Holiday missed practice on Wednesday, the Kansas City Star reports, and is awaiting test results. An FC Kansas City spokeswoman told The Equalizer late Wednesday that Holiday is expected back in Kansas City and back with the team on Thursday. It is unclear if Holiday will train. FC Kansas City plays in Portland against the Thorns on Sunday.
Blues technical director Huw Williams told the Star that Holiday’s health turned for the worst around 1 a.m. ET on Monday morning.
“I went back to the hotel with her and a couple other players and she was great,” Williams said. “Right about 1 a.m. she started complaining about not feeling well and vomiting quite aggressively which lasted for about an hour and we decided to take her in at that point.”

Holiday, the 2013 NWSL MVP, has seven goals and four assists this season. She ranks second on the team in goals, behind Amy Rodriguez, whose 10 goals are the second-most in the league this year.
Sunday’s FC Kansas City-Portland Thorns FC game has been changed to a 7 p.m. ET kickoff in order to not conflict with the World Cup final between Argentina and Germany at 3 p.m. ET.
