Canada coach John Herdman has named his roster for the June 18 friendly match against Germany at BC Place in Vancouver, where both teams hope to play next July.
BC Place will host the 2015 Women’s World Cup final on July 5, 2015.
Herdman’s roster includes a trio of young stars who are starting to become staples in the senior side: midfielder Jessie Fleming, 16, and defenders Kadeisha Buchanan and Sura Yekka.
“If you want to win a [FIFA Women’s] World Cup at home, you’re going to have to beat these teams. You’re going to find them on your road to the finals somewhere,” Herdman said. “The more we can learn about those teams and learn about ourselves with those teams, it’s only going to put us in better stead.”
Absent from the roster is Chicago Red Stars defender Rachel Quon, who played twice for Canada at the Cyprus Cup but has accumulated only 20 minutes in the national team kit after switching allegiances from the U.S. to Canada over a year ago.
