John Herdman lauded the play of his 18-year-old defender Kadeisha Buchanan after she scored and shut down Abby Wambach in Canada’s 1-1 draw with the U.S. last week.
In doing so, the Canada coach called out Wambach in his ongoing mind games: Buchanan “owned Abby Wambach again tonight…had her in her pocket,” he said.
Buchanan certainly did win the battle on the night, but the comments tossed a few drops of gasoline onto the fire of the rivalry.
Wambach’s response this weekend to the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle’s Jeff DiVeronica was a bit of a non-response, but the message was clear: “I don’t care about him,” she said:
