FC Kansas City boosted their defense on Monday with the addition of U.S. international Amy LePeilbet via a trade with the Chicago Red Stars. In return, Chicago gets Kansas City’s first round pick in the 2015 college draft and an additional international slot for 2014 and 2015.
LePeilbet, 31, is yet to play in the NWSL after undergoing ACL surgery in February 2013, a month after being allocated to the Red Stars. She is a Crystal Lake, Ill., native.
“We are very excited to have Amy on board,” FC Kansas City coach Vlatko Andonovski said. “We put lots of time and effort into finding a defender that will make our already strong defense even better. Once she is ready to step on the field, with her knowledge and experience, she will make an immediate impact on our team.”
There’s particular emphasis on “once she is ready,” from Andonovski’s comments. LePeilbet recently trained with the U.S. women’s national team, but hasn’t appeared in a competitive match since Dec. 15, 2012, when she played the first 45 minutes of a 4-1 win over China.
