Christen Press and Marta each had hat tricks in Tyresö’s dominant 8-1 victory over Austria’s SV eulengbach in Leg 1 of the UEFA Women’s Champions League quarterfinals.
That wasn’t the only Champions League quarterfinal of the day to see a team score eight goals: Turbine Potsdam beat Italy’s Torres 8-0 in Leg 1.
Press opened the scoring in the first 60 seconds and Marta scored her first goal in the 5th minute to establish that the rout was on for Tyresö from the start. The emphatic victory gives Tyresö one foot in the door of the semifinals. Here’s the box score. Check out match highlights below:
Title holders VfL Wolfsburg defeated Barcelona 3-0 in Germany to head to Spain for Leg 2 with a comfortable lead. Zsanett Jakabfi, Nadine Kessler and Martina Müller each scored for Wolfsburg.
Birmingham hosts Arsenal in Leg 1 of their all-English quarterfinal on Monday. Second legs of all four aggregate series take place next weekend.
