Exactly what the right foot injury was that kept Tobin Heath out for the majority of the last six months will likely always be a mystery (though the U.S. Soccer video above references an ankle injury), but for the first time since June 2013, the 25-year-old midfielder is back in U.S. women’s national team camp in Portugal for the Algarve Cup.
Heath says in the video above that she still isn’t 100 percent — and her most recent setback included surgery on a broken nose — but she’s happy to be back with the team.
“I had a few bumps in the road that you never like to see, but I’m super-motivated to come back and find my place with this team again,” Heath said.
The U.S. opens its Algarve Cup campaign on Wednesday at 7:45 a.m. ET against Japan.
