Germany and the United States have been drawn into the same group for this summer’s U-20 Women’s World Cup in Canada. The two world powers will play on August 5, the opening day of the tournament.
Hosts Canada kick off their campaign on the same day in Toronto against Ghana to open the entire tournament.
Joining Germany and the U.S. in Group B are China and Brazil.
Canada and Ghana are joined in Group A by Finland and North Korea.
That means that the second place finisher in Group B — which could be the loser of the Germany-USA game — will face the Group A winner — which will likely be Canada or North Korea — in the quarterfinal, making the opening matches pivotal.
