The Western New York Flash and Washington Spirit both announced international signings on Thursday, with the Flash bringing over Spanish midfielder Vicky Losada and the Spirit signing Danish defender Cecilie Sandvej.
Losada joins Western New York — where Spanish forward Adriana has played the last two years — after six years at Barcelona.
“I’m very excited to have the captain of FC Barcelona sign with us,” Flash head coach Aaran Lines said. “She’s a young player with tremendous upside. I’m happy that we are able to bring a new and exciting foreigner into the NWSL.”
Meanwhile, the Spirit have added the 23-year-old Sandvej from Brøndby IF and Perth Glory, where she played this past Westfield W-League season. Sandvej has international experience at the youth and senior levels.
“Cecilie is going to bring great athletic ability, natural quality on the ball and experience. She is a very versatile player with experience playing at the back or in midfield,” Spirit head coach Mark Parsons said. “I am excited we have managed to bring Cecilie to the Spirit and this is another very important player that will help bring success to DC over the coming years.”
