The Western New York Flash have signed Kristen Edmonds and New Zealand international Emma Kete, the club announced Friday.
Kete scored four goals int he 2013-14 Westfield W-League season for Sydney FC, where she plays with Flash forward Sam Kerr. Kete won the W-League title with Sydney FC last season and with Canberra in the season prior. She has three goals in 48 appearances for the New Zealand national team.
“Kete has done well for the past couple seasons with Sydney FC and wants to play at the highest level of women’s soccer,” Flash head coach Aaran Lines, who is from New Zealand, said. “It will also be nice to have a Kiwi, not only here at the club, but competing in the NWSL.”
Edmonds joins the Flash from Russian club FC Rossiyanka, having played UEFA Champions League games with the club. Edmonds has extensive experience in the USL W-League, winning the title in 2005 with the New Jersey Wildcats and two regular-season championships and final four appearances with the Hudson Valley Quickstrike Lady Blues, in 2009 and 2010.
