Houston Aces president William T Brumbaugh released the following statement regarding the Houston Dynamo’s efforts to bring an NWSL franchise to Houston.
“Thank you for your overwhelming inquiries as to the Houston Aces bringing an NWSL team to Houston. As most of you know, we have been in communication with the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) since the early days of its inception. It has always been the focus of the Houston Aces to bring the highest level of women’s soccer to this great city. Recently, the Houston Dynamo has announced their interest in a team which began in September. At this point, we are communicating with the Dynamo in an effort to achieve this goal and deliver to Houston what it deserves, the best women’s soccer team in the country. However, it remains to be seen, whether that team would be in a partnership with the Houston Aces or if the Dynamo would be developing a team without the Houston Aces involvement! At this time, The Houston Aces are not in the Dynamo plans to be a part of the Houston NWSL Team. Regardless of the direction, the Houston Aces remain committed to developing an NWSL team in Houston for its fans in the near future.”
The Aces bid to move their WPSL club up to NWSL earlier this year but the league elected at that time not to expand. They will play next season in WPSL Elite.
