New Zealand coach Tony Readings has named his 20-player squad for the upcoming pair of friendlies against the United States. The Football Ferns will play the U.S. on Oct. 27 in San Francisco and Oct. 30 in Columbus, Ohio. UPDATE: The games will be livestreamed free on ussoccer.com.
Long most experienced at the back, New Zealand brings the experience of Abby Erceg (86 caps), Ria Percival (83) and LdB Malmö’s Ali Riley (74), who just won the Damallsvenskan title.
The Football Ferns are fresh off a championship performance at September’s Valais Cup championship, defeating China 4-0 in the final after taking down Brazil, 1-0. Amber Hearn scored the lone goal against Brazil and twice against China. She is New Zealand’s all-time leading goal scorer with 35 goals, and she is on the roster for the U.S. matches.
Prior to facing New Zealand, the U.S. will play Australia this Sunday in San Antonio, Texas. Click here for Australia’s roster.
New Zealand and the U.S. last met at the 2012 London Olympics, when the Americans prevailed, 2-0, in the quarterfinals.
