Stanford, Notre Dame, Penn St. all suffer upsets

Sunday was a rough day for Top 10 teams, as No. 2 Stanford suffered its first loss of the season, while No. 4 Notre Dame and No. 7 Penn State both fell on the road.

Stanford’s loss to Arizona State is not only the first of the season for The Cardinal, but it’s also their first loss in 44 straight Pac-12 games. Sara Tosti’s first half goal lifted ASU to the victory in Stanford, Calif., at Laird Q. Cagan Stadium.

Notre Dame suffered a similar fate, but on the road in Miami. Junior forward Ashley Flinn scored twice for the Hurricanes in the 2-0 upset over the Irish.

Meanwhile, Penn State’s trip to Minnesota was a forgettable one. Haley Helverson’s 17th minute goal help up for the Gophers in a 1-0 win.

We’ll have a full weekend recap of NCAA action to follow on Monday.
