Arsenal Ladies have a consolation prize after finishing third in the FAWSL, beating Lincoln Ladies 2-0 on Friday to claim the Continental Cup.
After a scoreless deadlock for most of the match, Ellen White broke the deadlock in the 76th minute and Kim Little doubled the Gunners’ advantage 11 minutes later.
The trophy is Arsenal’s 40th in 21 years, according to BBC Sport. Arsenal had won nine consecutive league titles until this year, when Liverpool won the title and Bristol finished second to secure the other UEFA Champions League spot.
“That’s two of the three domestic trophies we’ve won and we reached the semi-finals of the Champions League, so it’s not been a bad campaign,” Arsenal manager Shelley Kerr said.
