FC Kansas City has loaned midfielder Sinead Farrelly to Cyprus side Apollon Limassol FC through January 31, 2014, making Farrelly the latest player on Team America of Cyprus.
That’s not the real name of the team, which is in the Round of 32 of the UEFA Champions League and running away with the domestic league, but Farrelly will be the sixth American on the club
Tina and Gina DiMartino, along with former Philadelphia Independence defender Kelly Henderson, are all part of Apollon. The Washington Spirit’s Jasmyne Spencer, as well Boston Breakers midfielders Joanna Lohman and Lianne Sanderson, join Farrelly as NWSL players on loan at Apollon.
“I’m just really excited to head back over there (Cyprus),” said Farrelly. “It’s so exciting to participate in the Champions League since something like that doesn’t exist here in the U.S. I can’t wait to head back to Europe and see all the girls and staff and keep playing at a high level. I have learned a lot and I’m excited to grow even more as a player.”
Apollon plays Austria’s NOSV Neulenbach in the Champions League Round of 32 next month.
