It looks like the U.S. Soccer family is about to get a little bigger.
Shannon Boxx and Heather Mitts have each revealed that they are pregnant. Boxx, a three-time World Cup veteran and three-time Olympic gold medalist, spent the entire National Women’s Soccer League season recovering from a knee injury after playing in just two games.
Mitts was originally allocated to the Boston Breakers but decided to retire just before the start of the season. She served as a sideline reporter for Fox Soccer during select NWSL games this season. Mitts is also a three-time Olympic gold medalist and played on the 2011 World Cup runners-up team.
The news about Boxx broke on Fox Sports 1’s broadcast of the U.S.’ 7-0 win over Mexico on Tuesday before she confirmed it on Twitter. Mitts had very clearly hinted at it earlier in the day before chiming in more that night:
It’s true…bummed about missing time w the team but fiancé & I r blessed 2 have the opportunity 2 have a baby. #Lookingahead2WC2015

U.S. forward Amy Rodriguez was slated to play for Seattle Reign FC this season, but missed the entire NWSL season due to pregnancy.
