Pretty cool story out of France, where Lyon, including U.S. international Megan Rapinoe, are offering to replay their women’s French cup semifinal win over Montpellier.
Montpellier’s Rumi Utsugi’s penalty kick hit the post and then bounced off the goalkeeper and into the net, but the referee called the goal off. The goal would have won the match for Montpellier, but Lyon went on to win 6-5. On Wednesday, Lyon suggested a replay “given the particular circumstances” of the win and in the interests of “good relations between the two clubs,” the Associated Press reports.
The French Football Federation will have the final say on the decision.
Rapinoe, meanwhile, is still expected to join Seattle Reign FC sometime in June.
