Abby Wambach has been cleared to play in Wednesday night’s game against Sky Blue FC, per the Western New York Flash. Wambach had to sit out Saturday night’s loss to the Boston Breakers on Saturday as a precautionary measure.
During a halftime interview, Wambach announced to the Flash fans in attendance that she would play in Wednesday’s game, though she had yet to be officially cleared.
Wambach was struck in the head late in April 20’s draw against the Washington Spirit. Concerns around the response to Wambach’s injury grew, yet both the team and player danced around using the word “concussion.”
This will be Wambach’s first home game at Sahlen’s Stadium for the Flash.
Western New York is still looking for their first win of the season, while Sky Blue FC has yet to be defeated. The two teams faced each other once already this season, with Sky Blue FC stealing the win on an own goal.
