The Boston Breakers have announced Ocean Spray as their jersey sponsor for the 2013 NWSL season. The company’s logo will be featured on both the home and away uniforms.
Ocean Spray’s logo features a breaking wave, and is a natural fit for Boston. The company is also based in Massachusetts, having been formed in Hanson in 1930 (coincidentally the hometown of Kristie Mewis) though it’s now headquartered in Lakeville/Middleborough.
In the press release from the Breakers, GM Lee Billiard promised an Ocean Spray presence at matches, including product sampling, which is a good indication that there is a genuine partnership between the team and its new sponsor.
“To have a professional and well-known brand such as Ocean Spray partner with us is a big deal,” Billiard said.
Considering Ocean Spray’s fiscal 2012 (gross sales of $2.2 billion and net proceeds of $338 million), it’s one of the most promising sponsorships for the NWSL so far.
