Four teams collect weekend preseason wins

Abby Wambach

Abby Wambach had a goal and an assist in her first time suiting up for the Western New York Flash who drilled Penn State, 7-0 in a preseason contest Saturady at Sahlen’s Sports Park. The Flash led 3-0 after 21 minutes behind goals from Adriana SantaMaria, Wambach, and Vicki DiMartino. Australian midfielder Samantha Kerr made it 4-0 in the 64th minute and SantaMaria added a 5th—her second of the day—three minutes later. Jodi-Ann Robinson joined the party with two late goals to close out the scoring.

Rookie goalkeeper Adrianna Franch was in goal for the match. Franch was recently called into her first U.S. national team camp ahead of friendlies against Holland and Germany next month.

The Flash improved to 2-0 in preseason. They beat Canisius College in their first match as an NWSL side.
