In case you missed it over the weekend, Swedish club Tyresö won the Damallsvenskan with a 1-0 victory over Madelaine Edlund scored in the 81st minute to give her club the victory it needed to clinch the title. Over 4,000 fans turned out for the match.
Midfielder Meghan Klingenberg plays for Tyresö. She was an alternate for the United States at the 2012 Olympics. The squad is stacked with the likes of Marta, Caroline Seger and Vero Boquette, just to name a few. Now for the annual offseason question: Where will Marta play next? (Translate this link in German that says her and Tyresö are talking about 2013.)
Christen Press, another U.S. Olympic alternate, finished second in the league with 17 goals for Göteborg FC.
Norway: Lillestrøm clinched the Toppserien title with a game to play thanks to a 4-0 win over Sandviken. Canadians Rhian Wilkinson and Diana Matheson play for Lillestrøm.
In Germany, Keelin Winters scored as Turbine Potsdam cruised to a 5-1 victory over SGS Essen. Potsdam, which also features American defender Alex Singer and goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher, is one point behind Frankfurt (league-leaders with 19 pts.), but Potsdam has a game in hand.
Fellow Americans Niki Cross and Sarah Hagen scored a goal each for FC Bayern München. Gina Lewandoski played the full 90 minutes in defense.
Below are highlights of every game from the weekend action in Germany’s Frauen Bundesliga (take note of how helpful and timely these are, prospective U.S. league-to-be).
Be sure to check out Simone Laudehr’s laser of a strike for 1. FFC Frankfurt with 4:50 left in the video. Wow. U.S. defender Ali Krieger and Frankfurt defeated fellow Americans Ashlyn Harris (full 90 in goal) and Elli Reed (45 minutes in defense) of FCR 2001 Duisburg 3-1 on Sunday.
Fiona O’Sullivan also scored a screamer for SC Freiburg (about the 4:00 mark in the countdown). She represents Ireland internationally, but she is a California girl and went to college at San Francisco. She also played in the the WPSL and was in preseason camp with WPS’ Chicago Red Stars in 2010.
