A charity women’s soccer game featuring many former Washington Freedom players will be held this Saturday, August 25 at the Maryland SoccerPlex. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
The event, titled “Celebration of Women’s Soccer”, benefits the Michael Washo Art from the Heart Foundation as well as DC Scores. The Michael Washo Art from the Heart Foundation was founded in honor of the late Michael Washo. The foundation aims to educate cancer patients about the side effects of chemotherapy and radiation treatments. DC Scores is an after school program that serves low income youth in D.C.
Michael Washo’s son Mark Washo, who is the managing partner for Playbook Management International (PMI) Sports and Entertainment Company created the event. Previously, Washo served as the former president and general manager of the Washington Freedom.
Several former Freedom players are expected to either play or appear at the match, including 2012 Olympic gold medalist Becky Sauerbrunn, Lori Lindsey, Cat Whitehill, Nikki Marshall, Allie Long, Joanna Lohman, KJ Spiask and Caitlin Miskel. Lianne Sanderson (formerly of Philadelphia Independence and D.C. United) is also expected to play in the match. If you’re planning a trip to DC this weekend, make sure you do a holiday price comparison.
The game will also feature players from the WPSL’s Maryland Capitols, WPSL Elite’s ASA Chesapeake Charge and W-League’s DC United.
