On Friday we told you there were a few marquee teams facing some real tests on the evening. Well, relatively, they all passed with flying colors.
In the WPSL Elite League, the Chicago Red Stars followed-up their headline making victory over the Boston Breakers last week with a 2-1 home win over a gritty New York Fury team on Friday night. Meanwhile, ASA Chesapeake Charge tied FC Indiana 1-1 in Indiana.
New York and Chesapeake, both on their Midwest road trips of the season, will swap opponents on Sunday, when the Fury travels to FC Indiana and Chesapeake takes on the unbeaten (4-0) Red Stars.
In W-League action, the Pali Blues passed a stiff test by defeating the Colorado Rapids Women 2-1 on at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colo. on Friday night.
Vancouver Whitecaps FC Women and Seattle Sounders Women tied 0-0 in an uneventful game, which keeps Seattle (4-0-1, 13 pts.) unbeaten on the season but off the pace of Pali (6-0, 18 pts.). Vancouver (0-3-2, 2 pts.) is still winless this season and well out of playoff contention. Impressively, 4,500 fans turned out to the game in Seattle despite the Sounders Women playing without U.S. stars Alex Morgan, Hope Solo, Megan Rapinoe and Sydney Leroux.
Other W-League scores: Charlotte Lady Eagles 2-1 FC Jax Destroyers; LA Strikers 3-0 Victoria Highlanders FC.
