A report out of Germany states that the U.S. women’s national team has been drawn into Group B with defending World Champion Japan. According to the womensoccer.de report, the U.S. and Japan would be set for a World Cup final rematch in the group stage of the Portugal based tournament, which starts in late February.
The groups, according to the report, are as follows:
Group A: Germany, China, Sweden, Iceland
Group B: United States, Japan, Norway, Denmark
The Algarve Cup typically features a third group composed of teams with lesser pedigree, including host country Portugal. I’m yet to see any details on that for 2012.
