WPS named Jennifer Pogorelec O’Sullivan its new CEO on Monday. She replaces former CEO Anne-Marie Eileraas, who officially stepped down on Sept. 18. O’Sullivan previously served as Vice President of Legal & Labor Affairs for the Arena Football League (AFL) from May 2008 to Jan. 2010.
O’Sullivan, a New York City attorney, currently is on the National Board of Directors for Women in Sports and Events and is a member of the Sports Lawyers Association, the Association of the City Bar of New York, and the New York State Bar Association.
She takes over the helm of WPS as it enters another offseason filled with questions about the future.
“WPS is comprised of the best female soccer players in the world and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to be affiliated with these extremely talented women,” O’Sullivan in a statement. “I look forward to working with our Board of Governors and the WPS team to help build upon the League’s successes of this past season and continue the growth of the league.”
Although O’Sullivan spent two years with the AFL, the 2009 season was cancelled due to serious league debt. The AFL did return in 2010 and continues on with 18 teams currently.
