The Western New York Flash are on the verge of clinching first place and the right to host the WPS Championship on August 27 with a 2-1 victory over magicJack on Wednesday in Boca Raton, Fla. All three goals came in a nine minute span. Marta scored in the 65th and 74th minutes for the Flash and Sophie Schmidt scored in between in the 71st minute.
With the win, Western New York needs just one point in its final match against the Atlanta Beat on Sunday in Rochester to clinch first place.
After the game, The Equalizer’s Jess Fainberg chatted with the Flash’s Marta and Alex Morgan as well as magicJack’s Megan Rapinoe, Marian Dalmy, Jill Lloyden, Christen Press and Hope Solo, who took in the game from the sidelines.
