The United States Women’s National Team leads Colombia 1-0 at halftime despite outshooting Colombia 15-3. The three halftime observations should be finishing, finishing and finishing but here are three thoughts at the break:
- Finishing – Seriously, though. Abby Wambach is guilty of missing the frame on a pair of headers and Amy Rodriguez has failed to put a couple of short-range effort on goal. The United States is up just 1-0 in a game that should already be over. Yes it is easy to say that in many games, but this was pure domination from the U.S. in the opening 30 minutes. And yet there is just one goal to show for it. I’d like to see Alex Morgan get 45 minutes in this match, so look for her around the 80th minute, just because.
- Colombia still in this game – Katerin Castro has been Colombia’s most dangerous and certainly thought that she had scored in stoppage time but she was deemed to be offside. It should serve as a wake-up call for the United States, which is back on level ground with one major slip-up. The United States cannot allow Colombia to stick around in this game.
- Pia spot on again – Lori Lindsey has been great in this first half. She is finding feet on almost every pass and making Pia Sundhage look like a genius again. There is a swagger in the midfield with Lindsey in there.
