The third season of Women’s Professional Soccer is almost upon us, with teams convening for preseason this week. Thus, Jeff Kassouf and myself turn our attentions to the league this week, but not before taking inventory of the news overseas, in Portugal and Cyprus. The United States Women’s National Team got off to a good start at the Algarve Cup, defeating Japan 2-1, while WPS veteran Kelly Smith reached a milestone in Cyprus.
We talk about those stories and the Canadian Women’s National Team electing to play before switching our focus to the WPS, where we consider whether the league has six viable playoff contenders, and if not, which of the other five is most likely to be left out.
