Ellertson, Atlanta part ways

The Atlanta Beat and defender Tina Ellertson have mutually terminated Ellertson’s contract.  The 28-year-old Ellertson started 16 games for Atlanta after signing with the Beat mid-season following the folding of Saint Louis Athletica.  She scored two goals with Atlanta in 2010 and also had an assist in her six games with Saint Louis last year.

Sources close to the situation have indicated that Ellertson is likely to sign with magicTalk SC/Washington Freedom.  The mutually terminated contract became official on Friday.

Also made official on Friday is the Atlanta Beat’s signing of Cat Whitehill, who will likely fill the void left in defense by Ellertson.  Meghan Schnur, Sarah Huffman and Lisa DeVanna have also officially signed with magicTalk SC/Washington Freedom.
