Sky Blue FC has signed young forward Casey Nogueira. In 2010, Nogueira tallied three goals and four assists in her rookie campaign with the Chicago Red Stars. With the Red Stars ceasing operations for 2011, Nogueira joins her old University of North Carolina teammate Tobin Heath as recent new additions to Sky Blue FC.
“Casey is one of the best attacking players currently available,” Sky Blue FC Head Coach Jim Gabarra said. “She can turn the game with a moment of brilliance, and we are fortunate to be able to add her to our roster. I look forward to seeing her on a daily basis rather than have to find a way to defend her as an opponent.”
Nogueira was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Sol in January of 2010, but LA soon folded. Noguiera made her way to Chicago prior to the beginning of the 2010 WPS season and soon proved to be a super-sub for the Red Stars. Interestingly, Gabarra played with Nogueira’s father, Victor, for the San Diego Sockers from 1989-1991 in the Major Indoor Soccer League and the Milwaukee Wave of the National Professional Soccer League from 1992-1993.
