You would think that a team that just hired its fourth coach in a year would be destroyed by turmoil and depressed from a poor season.Not Sky Blue FC.The New Jersey side is fresh off of an incredible run to a 2009 Women’s Professional Soccer championship, and now welcomes Pauliina Miettinen to the party.
The team announced Tuesday that Miettinen has been hired as the team’s head coach, ending captain Christie Rampone’s magical run as interim player/coach.
“I am excited to be involved with the Sky Blue FC family and the professional atmosphere of the team,” Miettinen commented in a press release about her hiring. “After I visited New Jersey and the Sky Blue FC organization, there was no doubt in my mind that I wanted to be a part of this family. I am looking forward to coaching these dynamic athletes, and to working hard to prepare for the 2010 season and ensure the success of this team in the world’s most competitive women’s soccer league.”

Also: Big Apple Soccer is reporting that Sky Blue FC is exploring the idea of playing at least one game at Red Bull Arena next season. I spoke with Sky Blue FC CEO Thomas Hofstetter over the summer and he said that the possibility was being explored, but nothing was formalized and the team is obviously playing its 2010 season at Yurcak Field on the campus of Rutgers University.Check back Wednesday for exclusives on Sky Blue FC free agents.
