| Osborne out for season with fractured collarbone |
 |
Boston Breakers midfielder Leslie Osborne will miss the remainder of the 2010 WPS season with a fractured collarbone suffered in Sunday's 4-0 home win over Sky Blue FC. The injury came as a result of a harsh challenge from Italian forward Patricia Panico in the 87th minute. Osborne went down and landed on top of her right shoulder, immediately grabbing it. Panico received a yellow card for the infraction, but the celebratory mood of a great win was dampened by the injury. “Finishing the season without Leslie Osborne on the field is going to be a big loss for our club," Breakers Head Coach Tony DiCicco said. "As a leader, she helped keep our team together and moving forward during a tough stretch early in the season. On the field, her return from an early season injury really helped spark our resurgence during the second half. She is a tough player and she has won a lot of key balls for us this year. We wish her a speedy recovery and in the meantime we will need to pull together as a team and keep putting wins together without Leslie as we work toward the playoffs.” Osborne will not need surgery, but recovery time is expected to be three months. Osborne started 16 games for Boston while co-captaining the team this season. Boston is 7-1-1 since she returned from a leg infection July 4 and the Breakers have surged into third place in WPS, just five points behind the Philadelphia Independence with a game in hand. |
