New Zealand’s Abby Erceg will be available for the Football Ferns group finale against France on Tuesday after the FIFA Disciplinary Committee overturned a straight red card shown to the captain late in Saturday’s 1-0 win over Colombia.

Erceg broke the news herself via Twitter.

New Zealand are assured of advancing to the quarterfinals with a draw against France and also have a path should they lose. Erceg, a vital part of the side’s defensive structure in a match that, even if New Zealand lose, keeping it close could be the difference between moving on and going home.

Good decision! It was a yellow at best. Nice to see that Erceg has a chance to help NZ make it to the next round.

So what happens to the ref now? That was a pretty big blown call.

It is traditional in soccer at the end of the group matches to review the refs and only carry on with those who have performed best.

That’s all fine and dandy but the group stage isn’t finished yet. She is still in the tournament for at least one more game unless they replaced her.
