Sky Blue, Reign both hit crossbar, but end 0-0

Sky Blue FC and Seattle Reign FC battled to an entertaining scoreless draw on Sunday night at Yurcak Field. Both teams smacked shots off the crossbar in the opening half but neither team was able to get on the scoreboard.

Sky Blue nearly went ahead in early minutes when Taylor Lytle smacked one off the bar. The play left Reign keeper Hope Solo out of position, but Sky Blue were unable to reach the rebound right away and by the time Lytle got it back for another shot Solo had recovered and made the save.

A short while later, Kim Little got through and found Jess Fishlock near the top of the six but her one-timer went off the underside of the bar and out of danger.

Sky Blue had another fine chance when Leah Galton, making her first career start, used her blazing speed to beat Elli Reed and make a run down the left side. She eventually played a cross for Kelley Conheeney who did not get a clean touch on it.

The draw was the third straight for Sky Blue (2-3-4, 10 pts) who head to Washington next weekend to see their former coach Jim Gabarra. The Reign (3-3-3, 12 pts) remain off the playoff pace and are at Kansas City next Saturday.

Reign coach Laura Harvey said she is not expecting Megan Rapinoe back for the Reign next weekend but does expect her to be called into the United States national team camp that begins July 1 and to ultimately make the final roster.
