Abby Wambach is getting her own Barbie doll.

Mattel, the makers of the iconic Barbie doll for the past 57 years, recently revealed that the company would get with the times and start making dolls of different body types, skin tones, eye colors and hair types to reflect the diverse world in which we live.

On Wednesday, Mattel unveiled that Abby Wambach, the world’s all-time leading goal-scorer, will be getting her own Barbie doll.

“Playing with Barbies that may or may not have looked like I felt growing up, I think that this is a really impactful statement,” Wambach said. “It just proves that we really are getting somewhere and not everybody is created equal.”

Hmmm..why does that Barbie doll has Alex Morgan’s body instead of Abby Wambach?

    • mockmook

More like a Jill Scott body.

      • lmao!!

      • NYRick

When you press the doll’s back it says, “Beep.”

        • woso32rooter

Is this part of the “Forget Me” campaign?

    • AlexH

This part of the royalty check campaign? Abby is hoping you already forgot about the “Forget Me” campaign.

But hey, money is money and the more that is made through woso the better it is for everybody. I have nothing against “Free Enterprise Barbie,” “Fifteen-Minutes of Fame Barbie” or “Sell Out Barbie.”

      • Lorehead

You mean, she’s licensing her image to sell merchandise? That does it, I’ve lost all respect for her.

  • Not A Fan Of Fat

This is the end of Barbie Doll because they have folded to the winds of PC. Barbie Doll will no longer be unique.

What they mean by “more body types”, is acceptance of slugs who will not take care of their own health. No matter how many dolls look like the slugs, few will be bought, they in the end the slugs will find few suitors.

I’m sorry, not sorry but fat people only have themselves to blame for bad heath and people being repelled by them. They will not be accepted universally but shunned at the same levels or more. People will pretend, just to keep out of sight of the PC police. Fat shaming is a good thing, make these people get a handle on their health.

    • JL

Congratulations. You just made the regular fools around here look sane. Your post is vile and disgustingly insensitive. Get out.

    • KT5000

You’re going to pipe in with this BS, unprompted, unrelated to anything on this page? You are displaying your ignorance wrapped up in the absolute height of unchecked narcissism. GTFO.

    • John

And what the hell has this rant got to do with anything related to a professional soccer player getting turned into a Barbie Doll?

      You are some clown.

      • Lorehead

Eh, every time there’s a story about women negotiating for a better contract, his ilk come crawling out of the woodwork.

    • GeeOPee

Oh no a pitch invasion of over-zealot politically incorrect nutter. Don’t you have any puppies to kick? Sorry just keeping it real. Don’t have time for your feelings.

    • Kevin
    • TsovLoj

      Troll smarter, not harder, bro

  • AlexH

I hope they sell a billion of them.

Although the doll doesn’t really look like Abby. It looks like they just took their inventory of unsold long-necked, puny-armed, chicken-legged Barbies and gave her short blond hair an put on a uniform with only two freaking stars.

    • NYRick

I guess maybe they started out making an Alex doll, some of the face looks like that. Then they said, “hey, why not make it into a Pinoe doll, she’s a popular player and has a great message of women empowerment (hence the skinny legs and arms and blond short bob). Then they said, “Hey, this is turning into a mishmash, why don’t we just call Abby’s people and give them some BS about all body types and our Barbie dolls encompassing all girls etc.” Besides, we just made a freakin ton of these things and they don’t look like Alex or Pinoe. “Oh, f%$* it, just get on the phone with Abby now. She’s not doing anything anyway.”

      • Ted Cruz

Why don’t they make a Barbie of me?

        • Guest

If you changed your last name to Barr, and went by the first name Teddy, I guarantee there’s some money to be made there.

        • mskillens

They did. It’s called Frankenstein. They sell them around Halloween so check back later.

    • woso32rooter

I Agree. There need a new entrepreneur with new mold to do justice to Abby-esque.

  • NYRick

OK I’ll ask the simple questions here:

    1. If a US woman soccer player is to be made into a Barbie doll and marketed in the US, how on this green earth is it not Alex Morgan?? Were her people asleep at the wheel on this? She gets every endorsement under the sun but misses this one? Strange.

    2. Timing of this?? Uh, didn’t Abby just retire and basically leave the scene? Why would a little kid want a doll of her now? They got some real marketing geniuses at Mattel who definitely need a raise.

    • The doll isn’t being marketed. It isn’t actually for sale. Mattel is just jerking us all around. The doll was only made for Abby.

  • Movement

LOL, they only put two stars on the kit because Abby didn’t really do much for the 3rd World Cup championship. Just teasing of course.

  • Movement
    • Lord_Littlefingers_Lash

yeah, just don’t ask how it was used….

  • Lorehead

    So where’s the third star?

  • newsouth

i’m staying away from this thread because it will be just one wambach dis after another.

    • Lorehead

Nice try, but we all know the real newsouth would never say that.

  • mskillens

an Abby Wambach barbie doll is pretty skinny looking. Abby is more robust and her legs are more muscular. Also no offense but didn’t Mattel watch the oscars? We now have 3 stars not 2.

  • mskillens

Also is it just me or does the face look more like Whitney Engen?

  • mskillens

I want a Carli Lloyd doll completed within the next 3 weeks. #nosesmatter

  • AlexH

A true story about Barbie and soccer.

A few months back some parents at my daughter’s U-12 team were whining to the ref about the roughness of the game. The ref scornfully replied in a thick foreign accent “Less Barbie, More Soccer!”

“Less Barbie, More Soccer on 3” became the team pre-game yell for the next couple of weeks.

    • Steglitz49

Can we open a book on whom this ref was or which country s/hailed from?

    • Lord_Littlefingers_Lash

This is my new go to phrase, right after “pull your head out of your ass”…..

  • woso32rooter

…I never would have dreamed in a million years, Barbies alternate universe segueing with WoSos inter…planes. Fascinating! Brand new enterprises in the marketplace could create female ( and male) sporting dolls from “brand” new molds.

I am enjoying posters comments/ perspectives. Post on.

  • First, they don’t create action figures for girls (Star Wars, Avengers, et al). Now they create a non-traditional girl doll yet refuse to sell it.

So glad the people at the head of these companies are so in touch with what consumers actually want to buy.
