In her first league game since officially joining French team Paris Saint-Germain a little over a week ago, American midfielder Tobin Heath scored the team’s second goal in a 4-1 win. Fellow American Lindsey Horan scored twice in the same game, away to Arras.

According to the match report on the PSG site, Heath started on the right side of midfield in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Horan as the lone striker. PSG trails women’s soccer powerhouse Lyon by three points in the Division 1 Féminine.

The two teams at the top of the French table will meet on March 2. Megan Rapinoe plays for Lyon.

Heath and Rapinoe are now scheduled to report to the U.S. women’s national team camp in Jacksonville, Fla. The United States takes on Scotland on Feb. 9 and 13 in new head coach Tom Sermanni’s first event with the team.

After her stint with PSG is over in early summer, Heath will play for Portland Thorns FC in the inaugural National Women’s Soccer League season. Rapinoe will head just north of her to play for Seattle Reign FC.

Heath made waves when she signed a short-term deal with PSG that will keep her away from the NWSL until June.

This is interesting. Tobin is by no means a goal scoring machine, but if PSG can continue to get her into positions that allow her to score I’m intrigued.

The French D1, like many European leagues, is quite uneven with Lyon and PSG out in front. Lyon has only conceded 4 goals while PSG has let in all of 7 goals. Arras, on the other hand, is in the lower middle of the table with 55 conceded goals.

The real test for PSG will be matches against Lyon (obviously) and Montpellier and Juvisy. Should PSG lose against those, they might lose that 2nd spot that gets them to the CL.

The “Commander” knows the French scene. S/he can give us chapter and verse. PSG is very much a bunch of hired guns while Lyon has grown organically locally. PSG needs to get its local girls academy going and be seen to contribute to French football not just scoring because they can afford to dine at the top tables. Lyon used to have only a couple of top foreign mercenaries like Lotta Schelin but now obviously have started to buy in the market place, maybe only to get their mitts that 3rd CL cup in a row.

It is always good to score for a striker’s confidence even better at such a young age.

Your point, Commander, is well taken that if Ms Horan continues to do well for PSG he likely is a given for the USWNT, n’est-ce pas? What about Sarah Hagen?

Do you think Tobin Heath will join PSG for the long haul? Will she return in the autumn and stay for 2-3 seasons?
