FC Kansas City unveiled a new logo on Thursday, the day before the team’s first official players will be announced in the allocation of U.S., Canadian and Mexican national team players. Here is the new logo:

The team’s colors will be blue and black. According to a team-issued press release, “the new logo also represents the ever-flowing qualities that make up the game of women’s professional soccer.”

FC Kansas City president Brian Budzinski said the new logo “better reflects our overall mission.”

Here is the old logo:

    Actually… not bad!

Is an “L” not missing? It ought to be LFC as in Arsenal LFC etc — or “W” if you must.

You will only see that if there is a men’s version already in place. I don’t think the “L” is that popular a choice in the US anyway. You’ll see “Women” as in “Sounders Women” more than “Ladies”.

In old Europe, the northern countries have followed the British model and use the polite ladies for women in sports but “ladies” do not usually make it into the team names (presumably because it is obvious who is actually playing) though the Swedish football league is called Damallsvenskan to distinguish it from Allsvenskan, which speaks in your favor. Germany uses “Frauen” instead of “Damen” while the Latin countries throw in a “feminine”. I quite like “ladies” — a touch of class and elegance, though there is not always something ladylike on the fields of dreams.

  • The original was so generically lame I had a positive reaction to the new one. But the more I look at it the more it looks like something from a kid’s video game. Gotta give them credit for trying something new.

  • The original was way too generic, but the new one looks like an U-12 girls logo. I’m partial to a shield style design.

      Yin and Yang?

the new logo makes the girl look fat & more of a video game character than a soccer player. I like the old shield– more soccer like, and respective.

Does she look like a Smurf?

Green is needed. The grass is greener on the other side and there is green in Mexico’s flag.
