Western New York Flash 2-1 magicJack: Video and Audio

The Western New York Flash are on the verge of clinching first place and the right to host the WPS Championship on August 27 with a 2-1 victory over magicJack on Wednesday in Boca Raton, Fla. All three goals came in a nine minute span. Marta scored in the 65th and 74th  minutes for the Flash and Sophie Schmidt scored in between in the 71st minute.

With the win, Western New York needs just one point in its final match against the Atlanta Beat on Sunday in Rochester to clinch first place.

After the game, The Equalizer’s Jess Fainberg chatted with the Flash’s Marta and Alex Morgan as well as magicJack’s Megan Rapinoe, Marian Dalmy, Jill Lloyden, Christen Press and Hope Solo, who took in the game from the sidelines. Geoff Solomon also caught all three goals on video. Check all that out below:

You don’t see Rampone miss a ball like that very often (Marta’s 2nd). In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever seen her miss like that. She did get a nice assist on the mJ goal.

  • Deciding goal reminds me a bit of the goal Bompastor scored against the US in the WWC: GK has to honor the potential redirect, then when it’s untouched it goes straight in. (For what it’s worth, a tie was as good as a win for the Flash, and MagicJack already has their placement decided.)

In general, thanks for the marvelous video – FSC doesn’t do highlights any better than this!

Thanks for the interviews with some of the under-represented player, it’s nice to hear them voice their love of the game and hopes for the future of WPS…and the videos are pretty sweet, too!
